Hello All! And thank you for checking out our website! Cherry Barc Farm was purchased by my husband, Nick, and myself in the fall of 2012. We both grew up in the Detroit area and met at a veterinarian clinic we worked at when we were in high school. We moved to the Lansing area to attend college. We later married and started our family. When we stumbled across the farm, it was a foreclosure and had been vacant and neglected for years. It was the perfect location! Only a little over an hour from Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids and about 30 minutes outside of Lansing and Battle Creek.
The first time we pulled into the driveway, we fell in love with the 2 story brick house that is now our home and the large red barn. It only took us a few days to realize that we wanted to breathe life back into this historic property and open it up for weddings. The name of the barn comes from our last name and the fact that a cherry tree is growing out of the south side of the barn. We hosted 2 weddings our first year open in 2013 and have grown exponentially each year to the 40-50 weddings we host now.
We underwent our county approval between 2014-2016 and brought the barn up to commercial code by adding handicap parking, new electrical, structural support, and adding a bathroom addition. It was a huge undertaking and we both worked 40+ hours a week jobs elsewhere to help offset repair costs and keep our lights on. I know working the farm and weddings full time is a lot of work and we absolutely LOVE every minute of it (even scrubbing the toilets!). Each year we make more and more improvements to keep our property not only intact, but beautiful for weddings to come.
Throughout the years we have added several animals to the farm including ducks, pigs, and goat. We enjoy homesteading and raise some of the animals for their meat and others for their eggs or milk. Personally, we can jelly, pickles, spaghetti sauce, apple sauce, salsa, and most recently make mead (honey wine). The property is first and foremost where we live with our two beautiful daughters and 2 rough and tough sons. Our oldest, Heidi, would be happy to show you her horse, Cisco and she can often be found helping clear trash from tables and collecting pop cans to help pay for her horse expenses. My husband has been working the past few years on planting out our field with apple trees. We have about 7,000 trees right now which make for a beautiful backdrop for the weddings.
One of the best compliments we've received about our property is that it 'feels like home'. We want the best for our couples on their wedding day and offer a laid-back, welcoming feel. Over the years, the animals have become intertwined with the weddings and the guests LOVE the ducks making their way from the orchard to their coop at night and taking selfies with the favorite pig- Kevin... Kevin Bacon that it! We would love the opportunity to show you why our property is so perfect for your farm wedding.
We appreciate all the support for our friends, families, and past and future couples. We hope to see you at the farm soon!
